Mission Statement

Lone Start Brigade | A Texas Non profit 501 (c) (3) Tax Exempt Charitable organization

Mission Statement: Lone Star Brigade in a non-profit organization providing access and participation with horses to people who serve the community. Including social workers, counselors, teachers, nurses, police force, first responders, fireman and military personnel. We strongly believe in supporting these everyday heroes in our community with our equine resources which will enable them to better serve our communities.

Why: Horses offer unique traits that make them the top choice for animal based therapies, and can offer extraordinary amount of emotional support and improve our physical health. Combining outdoor activity with horses can be more beneficial that the standard therapy room atmosphere. Through horsemanship we can improve our self-esteem, grow emotionally and physically. The mental & physical benefits that horses can provide is tremendous. Many studies show how equine activities can significantly help with emotional awareness, empathy, improving focus, relaxation, and reducing stress. Just to name a few.

Who: Our social service workers have tremendous impact on our society. They usually tackle on so many daily stressors. Not to mention most of these careers are typically underpaid. When we better equip our social service workers it causes a rippled affect in producing better members of our society.

"I've often said there is nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse" Ronald Reagan

Testimonials

Read what our customers have to say

Eva receives part of her daily nutrition through her G-button on her belly. At 2 yrs old Eva was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Noonan Syndrome, which helped to explain and better understand the many medical issues Eva faced since birth.

At times the journey has been very challenging to our family, but mostly to Eva's little developing body. Through it all Eva has continued to be a bright light in every room she walks into, loves to dance, laugh, sing, play with her toys and feed local farm animals.

When Amy Boyd encouraged us to spend time with Horse Pete, we were excited for the interaction, but more surprised on how quickly Eva felt comfortable and enjoyed petting and riding Pete.

For myself, life has tasked me with many obstacles more so these last few years from my work as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, to the multitude of medical appointments for Eva, and of course all those medical bills. However, with God, to balancing a wonderful life parenting Eva with my partner Mario, and our family strength we are slowly moving in a positive direction, and are more grateful to turn to Lone Star Brigade as a respite for equine therapy.

I highly encourage you to reach out and support the cause Lone Star Brigade has to offer and make those wonderful memories, bring healing to your soul and get connected with nature. We know Eva is ready to get back on that horse!"

As a police officer, Cheryl understood the importance of stress relief and self-care. Working with and riding horses in one way Cheryl used to decompress from the stress of police work.

Although Cheryl no longer rides due to neck damage, she still enjoys being around horses and grooming horses to relax.
